Educating the Next Era of Nurses at Pitt-Greensburg

The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg was the first school in Westmoreland County to offer an accredited Bachelor of Science in nursing, which is regarded as the foundational degree for a nursing career. The program is affiliated with the Pittsburgh campus’s School of Nursing, which ranked 15th in the nation in this year’s U.S. News & World Report College Rankings.

Pitt-Greensburg nursing students also benefit from their school’s close partnerships with leading health care providers—such as Excela Health System and UPMC—that operate in various acute and long-term settings.

A strong demand for health care professionals in the region—and the commonwealth at large—drives the success of Pitt-Greensburg’s nursing program. Pennsylvania’s aging population and critical shortage of health care workers call for precisely the kind of investment that Pitt-Greensburg is making in its new Life Sciences Building. The facility, which has generated approximately 125 construction jobs to date, is slated to open in late 2022 and expected to generate roughly $3 million for the regional economy.
